Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you." (Matthew 5:8-12 NIV)
There are many times that Christians are accused of being self-righteous when they stand in and for God's Word. Admittedly, there are people and instances where that is true, but I find that when you look at the heart of those who are accused of being bible-thumpers, they earnestly are sharing the Gospel with love. Unfortunately, too many times the hearers cannot or refuse to look at the heart of the speaker.
God tells us to do ALL things in love; to love one another. He doesn't say to love just your family, friends or fellow Christians; He boldly says to love your enemies, This is where Christians can show the light that they are often told to be. You can share your beliefs and values in love without being confrontational. When you engage someone with your heart filled with love, they may not see it, but God does.
God created all of us. We are all children of God. Even though Christians are chastised, mocked and belittled, Christians must press on with love in their hearts to be the light in a world getting more dark with each passing day. Amen?
